Benedek Stadler
Benedek is from Budapest, Hungary. Moving to Imperial College London, he completed his MSci in 2021 and his PhD in 2025, studying the fundamental reactivity of iron-aluminium heterometallic complexes under the supervision of Prof. Mark Crimmin. In the same year, he was awarded an independent Junior Research Fellowship at Christ Church to study low-oxidation state iron chemistry, which he took up with the Neidig group
Matthew Kania
Matthew is originally from Denver, Colorado. He obtained his B.A. in Chemistry at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, then afterwards spent a few years in industry before obtaining his PhD at Montana State University where he studied oxidative addition mechanisms of aryl-halides at palladium(0) catalytic complexes under Prof. Sharon Neufeldt. His current research interests include developing, and investigating the mechanisms behind, iron-catalysed carbon-heteroatom bond formation reactions.
Andrew Bage
Andrew grew up in Bedfordshire. He completed his MChem at Newcastle University and his PhD at the University of Edinburgh with Prof. Stephen Thomas. Following postdoctoral positions with Prof. Webster Santos at Virginia Tech and Dr Mark Greenhalgh at the University of Warwick (including a placement at Vrije Universiteit Brussel with Profs Mercedes Alonso Giner and Frank de Proft), Andrew joined a combined project between Profs Tim Donohoe and Mike Neidig investigating hydrogen borrowing catalysis. In his spare time, he enjoys playing and watching sport, hiking, and playing and listening to music.
DPhil Students
Peter Aitken
Peter is originally from Cambridge, England. He completed his MChem at Merton College, University of Oxford, undertaking a Part II in the Neidig lab, which focussed on iron-catalysed cross-couplings for alkene synthesis. Outside of his studies, Peter enjoys drumming in a couple of bands, playing football and hockey for his college team, and doing the pub quiz down the local.
Eloise Dignan
Eloise is originally from Staines, England. She completed her MChem at Wadham College, University of Oxford. Her Part II project involved mechanistic study into an enantioselective iron catalysed oxidative cross-coupling.
Elouise Griffin
Elouise is originally from Dublin, Ireland. She completed her B.A. (Mod) in General Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin. She is currently investigating iron-boryl complexes for strong bond activation alongside the Aldridge group as part of the IMAT CDT DPhil programme. Outside the lab, she enjoys going to concerts, reading, and travelling.
Stefan Kemmerich
Stefan grew up in a small village close to Cologne. He obtained a BSc and MSc in chemistry from the University of Bonn with a master's research project in the group of Prof. Connie Lu on the synthesis and reactivity of nickel silylene complexes. His current research focuses on the reactivity and electronic structure of organometallic iron clusters. In his spare time, he enjoys visiting museums and nature.
Anna Parkin
Anna is originally from Milton Keynes, England. She completed her MChem at the University of York. Her research interests lie in iron catalysed hydrogen borrowing reactions. She is currently studying for a DPhil as part of the CSHP CDT in the Neidig and Donohoe groups in Oxford, as well as, the Lynam group in York.
